Deep Dive into Stable BPC 157: Separating Fact from Fiction
What "stable BPC-157" means
BPC-157 is a 15-residue synthetic peptide. It is normally supplied as a lyophilised acetate salt. A number of vendors market a "stable" version, usually the arginine salt, and in some cases sell it in capsules with a claim that it can be kept at room temperature. This article looks at what those claims rest on, in laboratory terms.
Salt form and stability are different questions
The counter-ion changes how a peptide handles in the laboratory: solubility, hygroscopicity and behaviour in different buffers. It does not change the peptide bonds themselves. Whether a peptide degrades in storage depends on moisture, temperature, light and time, and those factors act on the arginine salt in the same way as on the acetate. A different salt is therefore not, on its own, evidence of a longer shelf life.
What stability data should look like
A stability claim is only meaningful with the method behind it: a purity measurement by HPLC at time zero, the same measurement after a stated period under stated conditions, and the difference reported. Assertions that a solid form does not degrade at room temperature, without that data, cannot be assessed. Lyophilised material stored sealed, dry and cold shows the smallest change over time; material in solution changes fastest.
Capsules and room temperature
Capsule presentations remove the two things that protect a peptide in storage: a sealed vial and cold, dry conditions. Any room-temperature claim for a capsule should be backed by the HPLC comparison described above. Without it, the claim is marketing rather than data.
What to check when comparing listings
- Which salt form is being sold, and whether the mass quoted is peptide content or total mass including counter-ion and water.
- Whether a purity figure is stated together with its method.
- Whether the supplier publishes storage conditions and a stability window.
Our position
We supply BPC-157 as a lyophilised solid, stored cold and shipped sealed, because that is the presentation with the best documented stability. Specification and availability are on the BPC-157 5mg product page.
